Breakers
A Poem by
John Fitzgerald
Your pain is the breaking of the waves
surging and collapsing in my heart
You call it love-turbulence
I call it convective instability
Either way, it will steepen and darken
until we become trapped under the lip
of its waters
And we can only hope to escape
before it closes all around us
