Bright Blue Flares

Bright Blue Flares

A Poem by John F

Should have known
We’d get caught.

We were sending up
Bright blue flares
Night after night.

And now you lean in the door
In your fired up skin
And pulled up hair.

With your cigarette eyes
And holy smoke lips.

Telling me I’m in for it
If I can’t keep up.

But I’m no god
When you’re beside me.

So you better bring
Your fear of falling
To the top of the stairs.

Cause I ain’t going down
To find you waiting for
Devil feathers to stir you
on again.

What an interesting poem, has rich imagery and metaphors...

This poem has a sense of urgency and tension between the poet and a partner, suggesting a precarious emotional state where both attraction and fear coexist.

The idea of "falling" symbolizes vulnerability, while "devil feathers" implies temptation or danger.
