The Blameless Vessel

The Blameless Vessel

A Poem by Shauna Jacqueline Anderson
"

Lyrics to a song I wrote.

"
I was lost
I was alone
In this house, I call my home.
The curtains blind
My view of the shore
And I'll be stuck here forevermore.
The waves will crash up
The cliff side will fall
A casual erosion
Of our history
A careful goodbye with no injury.

Sometimes I wish
That these things could change
But I've had to accept
That we've been estranged.
Inside a shadow
You called me a fool
For breaking our unspoken rule.
Inside a black box
You called me a star
Said you should have married me
And saved me the scars.

But time has gone by
And people have changed
The humans we were
Locked up in a cage.
The damage is done
The wounds are so deep
They're eating away at this peaceful sleep.

Conversation we had
Washed away with the tide
All things forgotten and all things to hide.
You said you were scared
And I was a w***e
We were fighting an invisible war.

We should have been honest
We would have been free
But now we exist in our memories.

And sometimes I wish
That these things could change
Take out our lives
To disarrange.
Inside a shadow
We laid out the truth
Regarding our misguided youth.
Inside a black box
You said more of the same
Said you should marry me
Depending on who I became.
