The Fireplace Tune

The Fireplace Tune

A Poem by Siddartha Beth Pierce

The kindling sparks

within the dark

to light the flames

of the night.

Brightened forth

with its warmth

we sit around the hearth

to pass tales of days goneby

and of those passing-

our words woven fancifully

that bring our hearts together.

Nestled in like mother hens

with her chicks all round about

we settle in and taste the gin

of stories spun of flowers.

Ashes in the morn recall

the previous nights blessings

where one and all

joined the call to bring forth

themselves together

and speak in tongues

with their loved ones

of things that matter to them still.

Sooty stains

are all thet remain

of the nightime warmth

by the hearth.

Yet in their hearts

they carry forth

the memory of their stories

where one and all

shared with each

a memory of their day or past

meant to last in

sharing with one another.

This is positively breath-taking. The rhyming was enchanting, and I can completely relate to this story-poem. It doesn't happen often for me, but I just love when a few people get together, people that you really understand, and have a real conversation about the things that are important to you. It's a wonderful break from the usual gossip and meaningless words. For me, those conversations usually entail subjects like dreams, spirituality, the supernatural, and books; endlessly books. I particularly liked the phrase "of stories spun of flowers." That's a beautiful description. Well done, Sid. I loved it! :D It's definitely going in my favorites.
