Colors

Colors

A Poem by Siddartha Beth Pierce

Green, a favorite of mine

the color of life

fills the trees with chlorophyll

seems to fill my veins too

as it is the opposite of red on the color wheel

together, the colors of Christmas

in all its yuletide thrills.

Red, is love and passion

like the candle and you will see

your soulmate rising near to you

it calls them forth with ecstasy.

Orange, my second favorite one

the color of the sunrise and sunset

often a moonrise of tangerine you'll get

if you watch carefully the sky

on full moon nights outside

or from your door

but rather venture forth into this world

experience the wonder galore

in all the hues set forth

for those of us that open our eyes

to the beauty of the majestic

Sublime.

Black, the absence of color in light

but in a painter's hands it is the collection of them all

wraps me in the warmth each night

like my most prized comforter

a true delight

elegant and serene

this color mysterious.

White, follows next in line

the saturated purity

of snowflakes and angels

is of what I speak

in the prism it is the collection of the rainbow

while in paint no color does it show

but is the absence of hues altogether.

Blue, the tone of the sky and sea

a true sign of happiness

a healing tone.

Purple, the tone of royalty

Irises, petunias, morning glories

tout this darker shade of blue.

Yellow, thought to be sometimes

the color of disease

or is it the brilliance of the sun

dancing in coniptions upon the lawn.

Together, they make the boldest of views

the rainbow hues

of colors, green, red, orange, black, white, blue and purple

these are what we see each day

passing by without a care

and yet they each infiltrate us

disbelieving our trusts

instead passing on their own natural tones

and making us feel not so alone.

Sidartha, this descriptive poem's very well written, rendering the meaning of colors, their effects on the earth as well as heart, the analogy used to describe each hue reflects what life mirrors the spectrum, as you begin with the color grean, giving

the reader the sense of invigaration, how its attributes relate to nature, that of fresh air, red- the shade of passion, sensuous in its tint, seductive, enticing by design, followed by showing the balance between black and white, and the majestic

quality of purple, with metaphorical insight, your words paint vivid imagery with
the added aspect of knowledge, that leaves the reader contemplating the entirety.
I really enjoyed reading the depth and spontaneity, scribed with ease of flow.

This piece is so warm and pleasant. It takes me on a trip around the world, but the beauty lies in the fact that you state every color, then point out the beautiful things in nature which bear this color, and you zoom in on those beautiful things, you magnify them study them, linger stanza by staza focused on one tiny detail, before teleporting the reader to yet another piece of beauty. Brilliant.
My favorite color is blue, and so the respective stanza was probably my favorite,

"Blue, the tone of the sky and sea

a true sign of happiness

a healing tone."

You truly convey the peace which comes with this color.

As for this stanza:

"Yellow, thought to be sometimes

the color of disease

or is it the brilliance of the sun

dancing in coniptions upon the lawn."

I love the way you twisted the misconception, redeeming the color yellow from any prejudice, showing us the beauty in its essence.

Loved it

Peace,
O
