The Zodiac

The Zodiac

A Poem by Siddartha Beth Pierce

At once the Universe

combusted

A mighty storm

arose

It seems the Zodiac

has taken

the less traveled

road.

Who are you,

what am I

and what about my horse

am I no longer the bull

stubborn and remorse?

Pluto has disappeared

from the planetary

system

and now I wonder

what exactly

is OUR

horoscopical

system?

haha with the zodiac changing and planets disappearing - or becoming lesser entities you rightly ponder where the hell we fit in ha - just shows how much of what people do is guesswork - oh planet - woo - a bit more knowledge - ah maybe not.. ha I love the whimsical tone of "and what about my horse, am I no longer a bull?" ha! nice!!

As much imagination that went into this poem, there is an element of reality, especially when you directly address the reader at the end. Beautifully done!

Haha. I really enjoyed this. It read very well. It's nice to find someone writing about things other than love/adversity.

This reminds me of a debate I had my last night deployed. We were talking about horoscopes and I made the claim that our newspaper horoscopes were bullshit, and that's when a dude I was sitting with pointed to my cross necklace and asked me about obvious fallacies in my beliefs. He made a good point however, when he said that just like the moon influences our tides with it's gravitational pull, so it is also possible for other celestial bodies to influence our world as well. I could write an essay on this subject, but it seems your poem is hitting on both points. It seems to say, yes, the zodiac affects us, but recently discovered info tells us that some of our planets aren't really planets and that the signs we came to believe we were born under turned out to not be them at all. It seems to show that if that was where we placed our faith, then we've been wrong from the beginning. I wish I could go on, as this brings so many deep thoughts to mind, but it's late and I'm tired. Excellently done, though. I love your metaphysical poems.

Intriguing... I wanted to understand but my mind somehow was too muddied... when I should have been seeing stars

Very good Sid. I had not thought about poor ol' Pluto that way.
