The Fear

The Fear

A Poem by Sierra Erway

I'm not scared, I'm not scared...

That's what you tell yourself when you're alone.

In the dark.

Resisting your demons and pushing away bad thoughts...

You try not to be scared when you know you should be...

I'm not scared, I'm not scared...

That's what you'll say to yourself when they all stare at you...

Judging every aspect of you.

Then not caring... watching as you fall... and break...

You'll try not to be scared when you should be...

I'm not scared, I'm not scared...

That's what you'll say when your worst fear is in your face...

Taunting you and taking over...

Sucking the life right out of you...

And as the cold darkness of the end closes in on you...

You'll finally say

I'm scared, I'm scared...
