Where I Am From

By Xiuhe

I am from those mixing brown, golden ponds
Surrounded by the tranquil green mountains
In the accompaniment of “Ribbit…Quick…”

I am from the wild yellow dirt
Gathering the dry black pine branches for rice;
Picking the black goose berries
While chased by the wasps.

I am from the benign, kind souls
Riding on their rusty monster bikes
As the fast moving sail boats;
Sharing a bowl of shrimp noodle
In exchange for digging long chestnut cassava roots.

Pure natural music was gone with the wind;
The girl covering with dirt become an amiable, strong woman
Reminiscing a peace of serenity at the bottom of her heart.
