![]() When Everything FallsA Poem by The Silver Chord![]() Basically the backing to this is two old friends, superpowers of the world, have reached the end of a chess match played through the mail.![]() All was fine and dandy, the world seemed to be at peace with itself. People making their way to work, drinking a vente mochachino, daydreaming about happy hour later on. Cities were humming with traffic and early vendors, shops were moving their robbery gates. All seemed fine, until that final moment. The sky fell dark, the sound of a horrendous apocalypse rushing into everyone's ears, nobody knew what was about to happen. The singular flash of red light was the only sign of humanity's demise. *** Smoke plumming, fire brandished across the terrain. Soot and destruction cover everything in sight, even the monoliths of molten slag and stone cry out in fear.
What an ungodly sight, something no one ever needs to bear witness to. Bones litter the streets, blood trickling through the cracks in the pavement, pooling in the gutters. No remnants of life, no sound of heavy breathing on the wind. Just utter silence besides the crackle of the growing infernos, stone crumbling, and metal grinding.
The sky was not visible through the blood red clouds. Lightning striking every so often, without a single rumble of thunder. Eerie and menacing, the earth was silent.
Somewhere among the mass of crushed concrete and rebar, lied a single, untouched by contamination, piece of stationary. On this seemingly innocent sheet of decorative paper was the explanation to everything.
It read:
"Dear Old Friend,
Remember the times we had together, the laughter, the sadness, the moments of pure joy. Keep these close.
Sincerly, The Nobody
PS. Checkmate."
When this was initially read, that is when the bomb that destroyed mankind was dropped.

Generally I'd like to say that I think way too much. All I ever seem to be doing is thinking, pondering, musing over some random thought or idea. .. more..Writing
