A Poem by Hope

Can't you hear the cries of fright!?
This shadow follows my weary eyes.
Standing on this shifting mound,
I cannot find my path: unsound.
    Running...

Burned into this subconscious eye -
a dreaded sound threads the sky.
Fears of evil, scared to fall -
why did I not make a sound?

Tossed around that wretched floor,
doused in blood, I am ignored.
That resonant voice and violent temper
overlooked by those warmed by his embers.
    Dying...

I deserve not the comforts of love.
It invites what I oh so loathe.
Push away all thoughts of joy.
  Protection is too rich, employed.
Escape from its grip could prove right
only if the next humbles their might.

Fight for dignity, naught of pride.
    Humility, not prejudice, should abide.
  Forever in one's heart, subside
     the jealousy deep in mind.
