My Run-Away Vessel

My Run-Away Vessel

A Poem by Merle Van Dee

poison on my lips,
the lingering of your kiss.
you never played by the rules
I hardly know they exist.
we crossed ever line and boundary together
throughout our short-lived lives.
I've seen much of the world and her ways
but your touch could shake any man
a kiss that brings kings to their knees.
better than any drug in these aged veins
more intoxicating than the devil's drink,
freedom my merciless master
how I long for your whip on my back again.
force me out of these lies I weave,
back to the open seas
with you as my run-away vessel.
