Bones

Bones

A Poem by Merle Van Dee

The flesh in these bones
     A spirit in a smile.

Please, go be lonesome
     Travel mile by mile.

Ponder the expanses in silence
     Talk ruins sight.

Consult your own soul
On the way in which to go.

Push ever onward
     Toward your goals.

Beat life out of your bones
They owe you every year of service.

Like lovers owe pain to the other
That each may learn to love again.
