A teen's friend

A teen's friend

A Poem by Enigma
"

We think that without friends we cannot suvive. That's true to some extent. But, at the end of the day it's WE who fight and WE who win the battle. So one should be confident and strong as it's only then the strength to tackle will be felt within

"

The road I took, I knew

Nowhere it would lead

My heart was filled with doubts

That I will not succeed

I kept on walking...

Not knowing where I went

I carried no money with me

No bucks; no cents

The obstacles I faced

I don't know how and why

How come I've become so bold

I used to be shy

Have the battles shaped me

Or am I growing old

I'm no more an innocent child

I've become matured

I look around

To find someone similar

My troubles and confusions

Someone who would hear

Will I travel alone?

Or will I find a friend?

A confused adolescent like me

Stuck in time's sand

Though I have the courage

To fulfil all my goals

But still I need someone

And so orders my soul

Somehow, I've reached my destination

While searching for a friend

And now I wonder how

I made it safely to the end

But now I've realised

That the friend that I needed

Waiting for my call

Inside me, it patiently awaited

I'm no more lonely

I've realised my strengths

Friend or no friend

I'll keep struggling till the end...

A nice little poem, and a heartfelt message. You ask, "Did the poem make me feel better?" Not for myself, but it made me feel happy for you. I felt a lot of anguish in the last poem I read of yours, and this feels that you've put that behind you, you're moving on.

I'd like to share a couple of thoughts about the poem if I may, but they are only a personal view. The next reviewer will probably disagree with me entirely...

The title A Teen's Friend, yet you you make no mention of a friend until halfway through the poem. Maybe it might be worth considering moving verses 5 and 6 nearer the beginning, say 2 and 3, and then continue with the bits about keeping on walking, and facing obstacles.

I thought it ran out of steam a bit, around verses 6 to 8. There are some good lines in these verses, but others seemed a just a smidgen repetitive. I wonder if it might be improved by condensing it into about 6 or 7 verses.

Other than that, I have to say well done. Again there is a great deal of maturity in your choice of words. An excellent piece of writing. Thanks for giving me the opportunity of reading it.

I agree in part that 'you' are the only one you can trust completely however, I've found that my best friend has been one I made later in life. I know for the most part he would be there for me if I asked and sometimes even if I don't. The poem certainly will make you look at 'friends' differently
