Betrayal

Your assurances found their way to the graves

I guess, I was never immune to this disease

Love indeed is an ailing heart

Existing in a delusion of a pain that feels good

I guess I would have to tear my self-respect in pieces

And shower them on your glorious presence in my life

The economy of ‘us’ with unequal shares in affection

Endless seeking of perfection befitting your soul mate

Countless rebellions against whoever stood in ‘our’ way

You were my ideal salvation

Your arms were the sanctuary I craved for

Crawled forward dressed in the tattered dignity of mine

How did you hide your flaws?

Or did you just move on to something

Or someone better?

You will be forgiven and you know that well

If I will survive this heartache, I simply cannot tell

Insecurity, you finally found me

And now that you feed on my mind

Please grant me another glimpse

One last, this time.

"Your assurances found their way to the graves

Deep assurances of what's meant to happen. The way you start off this poem catches the reader's attention with what you have to say. Insecurity is a terrible feeling to have when bad things happen especially when one falls into the beliefs of protection and reassurance. A great piece.

Beautifully written, very thought provoking. I was actually in tears reading this, because it relates so much to what I'm going through right now. I love the lines about 'the economy'. Brilliant abstract imagery throughout. Fantastic poem, well done :)

This is one of those writes you come across once in a while and you simply read it by tossing a rock and waiting to hear it splash somewhere in the bottom.. only you find yourself reading it over and over again because you got lost waiting for the sound of the rock that finally when your satisfied with the trajectory of the feeling that just passed between you and your senses that youre just thankful you made it out alive and you didnt drown. Here a bell of truth tolls where people who hear it also feel the clench youve inscribed in this, a very powerful one. This isnt sad, its brilliant. I was immeresed here and i came out gasping with remembrance, avoiding those sharp feelings will only hinder you. Great JOB!!

This is a great poem, kind of sad, but it states the reality that many people experience. Love can be bittersweet sometimes. And promises that are broken leave the heart cold for a while.

Insecurity befalls us all, everyone..and its harsh lit sombre tone can destroy or make us feel surreal...always wanting a last glimpse...beautifully said xoxo

The quote in your picture gave me different perspective on betrayal...
one that's not as cynical.

Nice write.

Having climbed the Himalayas and reached its peak on Everest, one is melancholic if one still pines for the highest peak to climb. One will have to make do with the memory of a past achievement. A nice write!

A poem that open the door to more questions. People change and desire seem to fade away.

Most of us know the feeling of a relationship falling apart and can't be repaired. I like the ending lines. Hope is the last emotion before we close the door forever. Thank you for a outstanding poem.

Promises and intents... aren't always the same.
