Spontaneous generation

Spontaneous generation

A Poem by SkinlessFrank
"

the ancients believed that you only needed to place hay in water to generate life...we're not so different

"

Macerate a few herbs aromatic

fennel, thyme, cardamom

inside the fifties housewife’s head scarf

before she stows away on the back of

an air force drone

to the old country

where her mother’s

slaughtering a goat with a

broken Coke bottle

and her father’s learning how

to dog proof the Christmas tree

No one’s taken off their boots in months

and when she passes them the shoe horn

it’s all over as soon as the landlord says

“Please, no ethnic cooking”

and you foolishly reply

“It’s just hard boiled eggs”

A real piece of work , I think ? I read it the first time and thought that's clever. Yeah, its clever and judging from Jazperanza comments below it must be clever , there is a problem though I am not clever. Love the line "dog proof the christmas tree and " no one's taken off their boots in months".

wow... and I mean, wow... This is one of those poems that's so excellent I barely understand it. You have to go back and read it over and over, and each time you pick up another strand of meaning or a flake of emotion... Possibly the best poem of yours that I've read. Truly awesome... and here, awesome is used correctly. ;-)

LOL this is such a brilliant one Frank. A keen message to the world, even your neighbour is an outsider. As I recognize this so much! Where I live nobody is originally Dutch, but all boiled eggs LOL ;) even I...

We have become a fickle society where standards change quickly and we have the attention span of a ferret on expresso. That mainly has to do with the evolving technology and too much media.

You know, your work really and truly is a pleasure to read! I sit here reading, smiling, trying to understand each line on its own then realise, it all gels so superbly, there is nothing but a "whole" to gather momentum and reach out...and boy does it! Superb! So talented xoxo
