A Real Piece of Work

A Real Piece of Work

A Poem by SkinlessFrank

We spent the night together

arguing

you

just wanted to

discuss

the Zapruder film

but I was already

bored to tears

musing about

the dark invertebrates

that well up inside of

sewer pipes and

thrive on

neck

cheese

please

you said

do not bite

into light bulb

or pump

blood

into the

Linzer torte

do not talk of

unicorns

how

their horns are

not bony

after all

but

are more like footballs

surrounded in

a kind of

tough

leathery

skin

you only wish to

slice down

through the length of it

and

watch as

the dark meat

spills out

in a puddle

like boiled liver

Surrealism abounds, like a sword fight between the artists Salvador Dali and Francis Bacon... a twist on the old po-TAY-to, po-TAH-to.....

The anchor comes in the first sentence, locking the setting, then the angst immediately transforms, symbolizing the welling emotion.

We sometimes dwell on the absurdities during an argument, this piece takes a step back to reveal the truth.

It took me several times to read this before my pea brain would filter everything through. I laughed and laughed. Isn't it so like couples so familiar with each other's thoughts. I agree with Roarke, only I see it more as a sword fight between Jenny's Deli and Kevin Bacon. What?

life, raw, very visual. there is no room for sentiment in your poetry, instead we see the blood and the guts of the world and yet somehow we are left feeling more human for it. stunning!

Interesting topic. I saw the complete scene in my head. Great job with the imagery.
