My Mother

My Mother

A Poem by Skylah Ginette

You left me here.

He stripped me of my innocence,

Took advantage of me,

Left me naked to be raped.

You found me,

Cried with me,

But you didn't clothe me.

You fell in love

With your own abuse,

Eloped with it,

Let repaint the past,

Recolour your perception.

How can you see him

And see anything else

But what he has done to me?
