Never lose sight of the trees

Never lose sight of the trees

A Poem by Skylah Ginette

Never lose sight of the trees,

Lest you end up like me,

Stranded in the city,

Left here by life

On the concrete

In the heat,

Shaded by buildings

Shaded in grey.

I am hopeless without

The earth beneath my feet,

Without streams to find my way,

Without singing wind

And birds on wing.

The walls cluster around me,

Cackling claustrophobia

Brought on by the cacophony

Of chaos in life,

Restrained only by

Constraints of time

As the world scrambles

To end this day,

To turn away from the sun.

City lights,

Inspired by dead fireflies,

Drown the night skies.

Not even the stars

Can guide me home.

I do understand this poem.

I have been lucky. I lived in the forest and I understand the beauty of nature. Big city make us wish for the peace and the quiet of the forests and the trees. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

'city lights inspired by dead fireflies'
beautiful, but tragic! There must be some beauty in the city, otherwise, why would anyone stay? Loved the poem.

some NEED their concrete edges to border and punctuate their perceptions... other need the endless noise to guide and move them... Cities have a "taste" and a "scent" and an existence that marks all whom enter.
