To Die of a Broken Heart

To Die of a Broken Heart

A Poem by Skyler Kelley
"

The title says it all.

"
He was captivated by silence,
Welcoming long periods of dread.
When he howled with streaming tears,
His perception of time stopped dead.

How heavy his chest felt,
The sound of his cries!
Salty tears trickling down to be tasted,
Bloodshot, hurting eyes.

He couldn’t tolerate it,
His lover’s death,
Oh, how he hated the memory
Of her long, last breath.

A serene, lightweight touch on his shoulder,
No more a feeling of anguish!
Although there shows nobody behind him,
He feels everlasting solace.

An ethereal voice,
A sound so enticing,
A sound of singing stars,
Every man’s weakness.

“Cease your drops of sorrow,”
The guardian angel whispered.
“Breathe new life,
See the new world before your eyes.

Fly beyond the clouds with me;
Your ending is your beginning.”

And there, on the damp bed from his endless tears,
Lays the body of the heartbroken man,
Breathing no more.

There is a very bleak feeling of dark beauty in this poem, a well thought out and descriptive display of writing. Nicely done
