![]() The Beast and the BoyA Story by Yanni Papas![]() Two unlikely companions meet and create a special bond, this is the first story of many about the adventures of The Beast and the Boy.![]()
The Encounters of the Beast and the Boy The Beast and the Boy For years the boy wondered the countryside unaware of his surroundings and oblivious to the outside world. Leaving home at the age of two, the boy crawled from the forest of Lakemouth to the hills of Boxton, through the icy mountains of Nobb to the harsh sands of the Ikron Desert. The Boy continued on for years, along the way facing horrible dangers and amazing encounters. The Boy walked, nameless and ambitious less, having no clear idea of where he headed, one day he came across a large beast whom he thought to be some what interesting. “Hello there,” said the boy, not at all realising the danger these words were sure to put him in, “what is your name?” The Beast stirred, turning its enormous head in the direction of the boy. The beast did not reply. “Hello?” repeated the boy unsure why this creature did not wish to talk. The Beast looked at the boy, eyeing him off with his grand green eyes. “I have no name, I wander these lands in search of food,” replied the beast, who slowly rose revealing his giant height. “Oh, well have you found any food yet?” questioned the boy. The Beast paused, unsure about his next words. “Well, I have and I haven’t,” said the Beast. “How can you have and haven’t found food?” questioned the boy. “Well,” again the beast stopped and began to pace up and down, “For many a month I have walked these lands in search of food and many a time have I found what I believed to be “food”, but on eating these assumed pieces of food I have found that each is quite dreadful tasting and not worth continuing. So I keep searching, ever on the look out for what may be an acceptable source of joy, joy, in my case being food. So you see that is how I have and haven’t found food.” The boy was now the one who stopped, as he tried to piece together the information he had just been told. “Well in my journeys, I have come across many types of food, some of which you may find enjoyable. I invite you to travel with me and I promise to help you find what you seek,” suggested the boy. “Why would I, a beast, travel with you, a boy. I should eat you now and cross you off my list of food not to eat,” said the beast growing angrier at the stated proposal. “You could do that,” replied the boy calmly, “but then you may never find what you so desire.” The Beast, being of a slow nature strolled back and forth softly thinking about what his new companion had just alleged. “Well, that is true,” said the beast, his anger fading rapidly, “but if I follow you I may never taste that of a young boys flesh.” “If you do follow me, the food we find together will be so tasty you will never find a need to look for another source of food again and never have to try that of a young boy.” “Ahhh yes, but following you may be a helpless cause and we may never find a food I enjoy.” said the beast. “If that be the case and after one year we find not a food you desire, than I give you permission to eat me (though I believe I would taste dreadful).” Stopping once more the beast looked at the boy, the boy’s short stature and scrawny body did not appeal to the beast, “A deal it is then” said the beast who believed he had been the victor in the small debate had between himself and this small mysterious boy.
