"It happens"

I can now only dare walk earth
Two hours after sunset
When rocks and sand have cooled off
Like our ears and souls
After battles of renegade words
Have burnt blisters so deep
That it feels as if I am walking on smoking coals again
But this time, I am not smiling
My heart's flesh is burning
With each step further away
From where we were yesterday
My soul can breathe again
But my heart skips a beat
And I wonder
How many years of my life
Will be shaved off my journey
When I started walking on this road
Of missing you.

i believe the good book admonishes us .. Eph. 4:26 (paraphrased of course ;) ...don't let the sun go down on your anger .. :) great wisdom in your poem .. the "...burnt blister so deep" really gets me .. we can do so much damage with our tongues .. i can picture this young man walking away before things really go bad .. trying to cool off .. and your twist at the end (at least for me) rather than we get together and make up the acknowledgement that embarking on the path portends the end of the relationship .. you got me going with this one sir .. nice job!

Hi SleeplessVolcano. You have given this poem a wonderful sense of hope that underlies the sorrow on the surface. Broken relationships are so hard to bear, yet you have depicted your inner emotion in vivid terms of longing and heartache. Very well penned, dark in a sense, acknowledging the hurt, yet aware that you soul can now breathe. It is not often I can read a poem with such mixed emotion and say it works . . . this does!
