Hot Air Balloon Ride

Hot Air Balloon Ride

A Poem by Andromeda

Floating gumdrops in the sky—

The little girl smiles and waves

                                                Hi

                                                Hi

                                                Hi!

Although they can’t see her from so

            Impossibly far

            Above the

            Flat tedious ground of the

            Flat tedious Earth.

A hundred figurative miles into the atmosphere—

Lost above where the air is fearlessly clear.

Riding a floating gumdrop in the sky,

She waves down to the matchbox people below,

Yelling at the top of her lungs

                                                Hi

                                                Hi

                                                Hi!

Yelling, drowned out by the magic of the morning air

                                                Goodbye

                                                Goodbye

                                                Goodbye!

Floating away without a care,

Floating away in the giant gumdrop balloon,

At the price of a hundred dollars

Not to touch the ground again for another two hours.
