Bedeviled Daughter

Bedeviled Daughter

A Poem by S.R. Madeline
"

Action, adventure, love and the eventual betrayal. It's hard to get it right, esspecially when it starts with an armed robbery.

"

He busted in and made a difference

In an unforgiving mind,

And when I lost the great “because”

He pressed on with his greatest smile

I can’t believe the things I breathed

Believing he was just for me

Every time I waked, I waked to sleep

Hard to believe that all belief,

Is nothing but a cause for grief

And every time I slept, I slept to dream,

Cause it’s a long river

And we let a river run

And we stole out with that money

While I was brandishing that gun

Yes it’s a long river

And we let a river run

Cause when it ends

It ends for good

so God pitied us this fun

Yeah that’s why God pitied us this fun.

Golden looks, a golden kiss

Made precious still, a precious gift

I believed he’d never leave me out to dry

Still while we holed up in that cabin

Hound dogs baying for a kill

He said; “Darlin’, we’ll make it out alive,

Cause it’s a long river,

And they’ll let a river run,

They watched us take that money,

And the feared your blazin’ gun,

Yes, it’s a long river,

But we’ll watch that river run,

Cause when it ends

It ends for good,

So lets have ourselves some fun

Yeah God owes us just this once”

My mother warned me as a child,

“never trust a well-dressed man”

but I was taken by  his words

soon after that he took my hand

We were  as happy  as could be

As we rode the Devil’s trail

Every day a darker trade

Each rising sun, a shade more pale

‘Till one day I found his Love,

and her reflection, not my face,

that was when I owned that gun

and hurried off at Fury’s pace,

Cause it’s a long river

And I’ll let that river run,

Cause betrayal  is a sickening sound

The prelude to my gun

Yes it’s a long river

And I watched that river run

God played chess, for me, with Devils,

And I know now who has won.

So on I ride with my sweet  smile

On through the low and rising tides,

To each and every ethereal gate,

Still turned away, my every  try

And we may meet on one dark street

I’ll be lost and you not found

So stand aside and watch me ride

Fleeing from your loathsome town

Cause it’s a long river

And we watch a river run,

Stories start both here and there

And where I stand all hope is shunned

Yes it’s a long river

And we watch a river run

Nothing gained is nothing lost

So let’s have ourselves some fun,

Yes, I think I owe you just this once.
