Modern day Romeo and Juliet

Modern day Romeo and Juliet

A Poem by Some John

A support group
Is where the two met
Hers was hereditary
His was from his last cigarette

Both of them suffering
Each one getting worse
Star crossed lovers
Tis not this couples curse

It happened one night
While up to quench his thirst
Weakened knees collapsed
Romeo went to the hospital first

He was damn near comatose
Morphine kept the pain at bay
The other bed was empty
Till Juliet arrived the next day

On the nightstand between them
Flowers and cards wishing them well
They remained bedridden for months
Together through each others hell

One night it happened
The reaper appeared
Both were so happy
Together they silently cheered

This reaper was armored
Greenish blue scrubs and a mask
The poison went in
Lord forgive me she asked

Two lifeless bodies
Still holding hand under the covers
You may call it a tragedy
I call it two lucky lovers
