Andromache's Thoughts

Andromache's Thoughts

A Poem by Basil

Back when Paris brought her home

She was ten years younger, still beautiful

Her face hasn’t changed

She’s barely aged

But sadness has marked its place

I avoid her out of fright:

Women like her cause fights

A country at war and all she does

Is sit and weep for her past

I can’t help but wonder what it’s like

She wears her beauty like a curse she must hide

And although he’s family

If Paris were my husband I’d do the same

I want to offer comfort
But how can I not fall short

Of the words she really wants to hear?

‘Let’s go home to Sparta, dear.’
