Opposites

Opposites

A Poem by SoundOfThought
"

A wonderful, awful town of opposites

"

Won’t you come to the land that I call my home?

A place smaller than a room yet bigger than Rome

Where happiness and laughter stay and never go

Yet the sadness is colder than the coldest of snow.

A kingdom where the anxious may lay down their heads

And indulge in apathy whilst they lie on their beds.

A village where indifference shines

But worries keep the people in their lines.

A haven where the melancholy can cry

But always have a laugh if they try.

You may find it a crazy place

But it’d be quite a change of pace.

Please, do stop by this hamlet, dear

But do be careful not to get lost, you hear?

Don’t be fooled by how carefree it seems

Lest you get lost in a complexity one usually only finds in dreams.

Up is down, and left is right

Smell is sound, and touch is sight

The sun always shines bright

Yet the rain drowns out the light.

The darkness consumes all

While the light awaits its call.

Sleep is hard to find

But those awake are asleep at mind.

My home’s neither evil nor good

So if you’re ever ‘round, you should

Drop on by and test your mettle

You may even find that you’d like to settle

In my carefree, anxious little town

And drown out your fears with an indifferent frown

Whilst you wallow in depression

Under over-joyed oppression

And monotony galore

Before the excitement makes you hit the floor.

Despite what I’ve said

Or what you may have read

I must admit that my wonderful, awful town of opposites

Is really the pits
