The Spark

The Spark

A Poem by SoundOfThought
"

The fire within

"

Love, talent effort, passion

All that he did was done in beautiful fashion

Nothing could stop him, nothing could hope

No matter the steepness, he flew up the slope

A legend of legends that none could surpass

No matter who faced him, be it sots or top brass

But in the background, unbeknownst to him

The fire within him slowly began to dim

Emptiness, loneliness, sorrow, spite

He searched day after day for one worthy of his might

But eventually, any semblance of hope was gone

Sadly he wandered, from dusk until dawn

Searching for a glimmer, an ember a spark

Someone with bite, and not just bark

But grain by grain fell the sands of time

Without even a ripple, disturbance or chime

And he’d all but forgotten the thrill of a worthy foe

Until one faithful day, out of nowhere, lo!

A challenger! A light! A spark!

Appeared before our genius from the overwhelming dark

Passion, vigor, life, joy

In this magical moment, they hadn’t time to be coy

Their fight rocked their world

Yet a strange happiness unfurled

In the heart of our prodigy, who for so long

Had searched for someone within the throng

To awaken the dormant fire

And unleash upon all of his sealed-away ire

Happiness, glee! But oh, the cost!

For you see, my dear reader, our wunderkind lost

Disbelief, fear, the death of his pride

There was nothing in which he could confide

But as strange as it may seem

A genuine smile crossed his face with a gleam

He’d found what he'd searched for

A spark, a light, an open door

It was once again his, the fire he’d misplaced

All of his melancholy, away had been chased

Now, he had something to achieve, something to aspire to

A reason for effort, a chance to start his training anew

Remember, dear reader, all of us waver

When we become so good that we’ve nothing to savor

But if that fire of ours were to leave

We must look for a spark

Lest we become solemn, bereaved

And get lost in the dark

For you see, without passion, what would we be?

We’d be purposeless, hollow, drunk down to one lee

So remember, when there’s no one to match you mark for mark

Don’t sink down or be complacent, look for a spark

Very Nice poem, simple wordings but a strong message.

"But grain by grain fell the sands of time

Without even a ripple, disturbance or chime" these lines I liked very much. I also enjoyed the rhyme in the poem.
