There

There

A Poem by SoundOfThought

True value

"

Recently, I’ve had an obsession

That’s made absolutely no progression

You see, it’s because I came to question

What lies over there

My fixation soon gave me fiery aggression

And although I had practiced decompression

The question brought me swiftly into a regression

What lies over there?

I can’t hold back, there’s no hope for suppression

No way I can put myself under repression

Ah! My gnawing curiosity trumps all attempts at oppression!

What lies over there!?

To you I now make a confession

And I hope that I don’t give you the wrong impression

But I must have it under my possession!

Whatever that lies over there!

I’m afraid that I’m lost in crippling depression

For my efforts have hit an impoverished recession

Yet still, I can’t help myself, there will be no digression

I must know what lies over there!

I can see that from your expression

That you wish to acquire a new accession

Saying this betrays my powers of discretion

But I know what lies over there…

How would you know such a thing? What is your profession?

Are you a thief who wishes to add it to your collection?

Or the original owner who wants a repossession

Of whatever lies over there!?

I am neither a thief nor the owner. Forgive my transgression

But if you wish, I can help you with a bit of intercession

All that I ask of you is a small concession

I care not for what lies over there

What is it you desire? No need for this precession

It’s yours! Will it require a procession?

I’m sure I can pay any reward in a single session

Please just tell me what lies over there!

In order to cure you of your sight’s compression

And to teach you a most valuable lesson

I ask that you give me the chance to dissuade you and your mind freshen

From what it is that lies over there

Very well, friend, I will listen to your suggestion

But you best not try any sort of deception

Or else you’ll end up going in quite the unfavorable direction

Why should I forget about what may lie over there?

What I’m about to say may be met with bad reception

But I think that it’s about time I brought it to your attention

Look all around you, are you unsatisfied with the perfection?

Why do you need what slumbers over there?

Your journey, right from its conception

Was foolhardy. You’re more naïve than a freshman

Do you view your family, friends and fortune as some ghastly infection?

What could be better over there?!

My friend… you are right. How did I not make the connection?

They’ve loved me so much, yet I ignored their affection

What lies over there pales in comparison to even the reflection

Of what I have here

Seems like the observer is quite confused whether he wants to know what lies over there or not... Interesting piece of work.. I think this is giving the message that we should concentrate on what we have rather on what we should have.. I liked reading this..
