like rain

like rain

A Poem by Sparrow

I might have been lying just then

when I told you “I am like rain”

I am more like a burning blade

that tare every heart to slivers

no matter how rigidly I try to love you

I will always be a liar

and as I cut

you keep breaking

under the gentle touch of my betrayal

Bravo! A haunting piece. The choice of simple and not superfluous words lend it the finality of veracity. The structure, clipped and short, like something that is said cuttingly to someone's back as they leave. I sincerely applaud you, this is a wonderful poem.

I will definitely be looking at the rest of your work now.

Thank you and keep writing,
A.E.
