July 12

A Poem by Sel Whiteley

Bowler hats worn in some dark homage
to Sir Winston Churchill and the sixteen hundreds
to celebrate the liberation of struggling settlers
and the fortresses that walled
into infertile fields, a newly landless people.

Loyalist jackboots, black as broken coal,
march in rhythm to outdated industries.
Half a million faces pale in these orange days.
Sashes and banners lacerate
this tense July and pipes warble their hymns.

And above all, I recall the tricolour,
the loyalist orange and shock white of peace
and the green of our still young dreams
days of endless rebel songs. I
dream of all

Irish peoples harmonising in song.

' in days of endless songs on a united Ireland and unity / and dream of all the Irish peoples singing in harmony. ' Please God, it'll happen one day.

' .. 500,000 faces pale in these orange days ..' a wonderful phrase.

Your work is amazingly powerful, raw, intense. I admire the way you spread your thoughts through your posts, stating how things are .. no frills.

Thank you for sharing.
