Just Stay!

I am not my body,

the one they see each day,

the one that holds me trapped,

that continually turns them away.

How I wish ‘her’ to lift this veil, and

  not to walk away,

hear my heart, listen to hers,

to turn around, just stay!

 

Will there ever be one whom to tell,

someone strong enough to stay,

someone to look beyond this shell,

to hold at the close of day?

Just to lift that veil,

to put away that pride,

take time to look and

  see what’s on the other side.

 

My handicap, these days more emotional

  than the physical that I bare,

someone who’ll have the strength,

She, forever my prayer.

So scared for future years,

just to be happy content,

for the one who’ll be there,

this question always my lament!

Just for her to see

    this love I hold inside,

always, just always

  trying to find that day,

always, just always

  whispering …. Just Stay!

You have quite transparently revealed the reality of the inner person is not the outer. I found myself seeking an understanding of the lot or feeling of someone who has a different day to day life within their own 'body house' and what it is like to interact with others. Dearest Kathy, Thank you so much for your words to me. Thank you also, for seeking a degree of understanding. Disability and 'mainstream' living is extremely difficult when trying to translate love and inner feelings into an 'able bodied' context. I always thought society very inclusive of the handicapped, but in this area of life, that inclusiveness seems to run thin and hit a very loud and strong wall! Society, sometimes I wonder!!
