Penance

Penance

A Poem by SpitfireGrrrl

i cover myself in
a Penance colored
shroud

and walk these
streets with my
head down
eyes uneasy
soul shuffling

i cover myself in
a Penance colored
shroud

tripping, tearing
the cloth rending
like a lepers veil
gasping, weeping

i cover myself in
a Penance colored
shroud

only to realize
i refuse to be a Martyr
and enslave myself
any longer

. i relate to these words so intensely and so deeply that i'm very grateful you wrote them ... you empower me ... thank you for that ... i was in excruciating pain for a long time ... waiting to be rescued ... then, i realized that those who i was waiting for needed to be rescued by me ... life can be very difficult to decipher sometimes ... we think we are weak when all that pain inside actually has the potential to propel us ... fantastic work, my friend ... superb imagery ... poignant and powerful poetry ...
