A Compass

A Compass

A Poem by Linzey

When I close my eyes I can see it spinning

Searching

Longing for the soul lost out to sea

Have it set sail

Soon to discover a journey tougher than expected

Waves crash against the sides

Hunger, weakness

Yet he still pulls forward

For it keeps spinning

Taunting him

Telling him she will never be found

When I close my eyes I can see it spinning

I can see his face and his struggles

I can feel what he feels

His pains of losing all he has and was

Yet, I know he has the strength to get through it all

I can feel his courage wrapping around me

Keeping me safe

Reminding me that he is trying his hardest to find me

When I close my eyes I can see her face

She makes the darkest of rooms feel bright and loving

Every day as the compass spins faster and faster,

She becomes less like a ghost and more like a lover

I can feel her in my arms

It will be soon that I can actually feel that again

When I close my eyes, it feels like he's here

Everything I know of him surrounds me every day

The memories

Oh, the memories

They make my heart skip a beat

I can hear him speaking

I just hope he can follow my voice as I call him home

Finally, it stops

The compass stops spinning

It's found her

She's so close

Show me the path I can follow to my home

I can see him

My eyes must be closed

Dazed in a dream that feels all too real

Calling out my name

Trying to run, but having too little strength

No

He's home
