Why I Love Them

Why I Love Them

A Poem by Linzey
"

This is for a poetry scholarship. This year the concept was teaching. How would you teach others? What would you teach?

"
Every time I see their faces,
My smile gets a little bit wider.
Every time they become excited to learn something new,
I learn to love my job even more.
Every time they ask me how my day is,
I can honestly say that it just got better.
I love knowing that they can trust me.
How they seem to know that I understand how they can feel hurt,
Confused,
Misled by the ones they love.
When they tell me that they love how I don't judge them, I remind each and every one of them to see how they could be judging others,
Hurting those just like they were hurt themselves.
Every time they tell me that they're going to miss me, I remind myself how I've helped mold another kind mind.
Every time they tell me they'll never forget me,
I can't help myself from shedding a tear.
But once my current students leave I know my love for my job will grow again.
After showing my students how to care for others as deeply as I do for them, I hope that they were able to understand the most important lesson I teach.
To love all deeply and to do everything that makes you happy.
Just like I do.
Every day.
