To the Post-It Notes!

To the Post-It Notes!

A Poem by Spoken
"

lighthearted fun -an ode to the little things that make life sweet

"

This one goes to the post-it note
and sweet gulps of coke
I propose a toast to paper plates
for giving wrinkled dish water hands a break
and to the creator of keys and locks
to keep sticky hands and stupid a*s ex boyfriends
out of my house!
I’m not ashamed to say
I’d kiss the lips of the genius
who gave us socks
those soft cozy covers
that keep my little toes safe
from the cold
pj’s and underwear
wonder bras
and coffee mugs
to microwaves
which heat the all mighty hot pocket
and toaster ovens to cook everything else
bachelor’s and college students owe you their life
which brings us to ramen noodles
the cheapest piece of crap soup you can buy
but it’s mmm so good
lets not forget the peanut butter and jelly sandwich
and macaroni and cheese
the savor of mothers who don’t know
what the heck to feed their children
that they will actually eat
oh yes, I’ve been there
and finger foods have saved me many
hours of sleeplessness
and trips off the couch in the middle of my favorite t.v. shows
“mommy I’m hungry”
“go grab a cheese stick honey”
those who laugh have been there before

But most of all
thank you
THANK YOU
to the post it note
which reminds me every day
to take out the trash
to pay my bills
to pick up milk

I appreciate the little things you do

this poem is for the posties! I heart you!

haha! such a very gripping poem.

i love how this is a salute to college madness! the elegance among simple syntax is what i like most about all of this.

the timelessness of scholastic melodrama at its best. superb work! one of the best contemporary works i've read in a while.

i could really relate to most ideas conveyed in this one. kudos for a poem well-written!
