The Albatross (a poem intended to be a song)

The Albatross (a poem intended to be a song)

A Poem by Ames Tracy
"

While the lyrics make a reference to Rime of the Ancient Mariner, this short poem/song is about relationships.

"
Among my high school English class
was told a story of a man
who tried to shoot his obstacles between the eyes-
(much to his demise)
Well, I can't say I'm blamin' him
but in the end, he didn't win
and from my breast, so suddenly arose within
A state of shame!
For I cannot say that my poor papa's proud of me, proud of me
Mark a seraph fallen out of place
But with a heart set forwards, some can turn away, turn away
Unclean, yet full of forgiveness,
forgiveness
forgiveness
Bizarre is growin' wings these days
so settle for some honest praise
and aim a little higher,
(Life shouldn't be a broken record)
Call the pieces altogether
and keep your eye out for the weather!
If you don't, the consequences usher in
A raise of Cain!
For I cannot say that my poor papa's proud of me, proud of me
Mark a seraph fallen out of place
But with a heart set forwards, we can turn away, turn away
Unclean, yet full of forgiveness
Forgiveness
Forgiveness
Forgiven.
