Cancer Calls. A Week Begins

Cancer Calls. A Week Begins

A Poem by Mr. Stage Four

Monday comes. A week begins.
Tuesday and the others follow.
Doctor's visit. Scared man.
Biopsy. It is bad. He resolves
himself to comply. Best to
get it over with, do what
must be done. Sitting in
his favourite chair, in
stretching wonder his
imagination sputters.
There is a dignity in
the living. There is
dignity in the dying.
Frame of mind conditions
the mental environment.
Train of thought opens
to mangled considerations.
He remembers all sorts
of things, but not one stays
in focus. Wait ten days after
it is accomplished, and from
there make future decisions.
Why bother changing the
channel on the television?
The same over-acting is
on every channel. Does he
know the future? Hardly.
He barely knows his past.
Monday comes. A week begins.
Tuesday and the others follow.
