Razorblades

Razorblades

A Poem by Delilah Dunn

If I knew for certain
that dying would be easy-
peaceful and quiet-
A long stroll on a summer night
along a moonlit shore,
Staring at the stars I love,
not thinking of the pain I crave,

Then I swear that I would die

A bittersweet red death.
If I could be sure
that the familiar, cold loneliness
would not creep behind me
and follow me to my next destination,

Then I swear that I would smile,

And with the veteran blade
That has been my dearest enemy,
Kiss the scars upon scars
With cold steel-
Just one last kiss.
I would choose to fade
Into the sunset I have worshipped
and dance among my stars.

If only I were certain.

wow this poem is darkly beautiful. so many times i have been there. i love the imagery. everyone hopes that death is peace, long for it, but no one knows for certain. you've expressed it so vividly & smoothly with this writing. beautifully written. going in my favorites.
