Aura of a Spirit

Aura of a Spirit

A Poem by Delilah Dunn
"

Written Fall 2008

"

There is a part of you that lingers

It drifts upon the autumn wind

and offers up a sweet caress

as I desperately breathe it in

and you come back again

Your voice is worn and faded

Its sound gone from my straining ear

At times it seems you never left

and then it's as though you were never here

sometimes my memories are unclear

And yet somehow within my soul

Your smile is bright embroidery

Stained-glass and glowing embers

Warm and safe and welcoming

Still melting into me

Though my tears have yet to dry

All of yours have seen their end

The shadows cannot touch you now

Your soul will dance upon the wind

You won't be back again

Oh, I just love this! Your images are exquisite, and your descriptions involve the reader's senses. I especially like "I desperately breathe it in and you come back again." I have had similar experiences, and reading this brought back memories. The last five lines are powerful--"your soul will dance upon the wind" especially moved me. Thanks for sharing this!
