A Vision

A Vision

A Poem by Delilah Dunn
"

Written Fall 2008

"

I saw you last night in a dream

And I wanted to sing to you

For simple speaking could never suffice

Yet the light in your eyes was nostalgic

A sight I have not witnessed in what feels like

centuries of longing

And to see you smile at my image, my thought

My eyes finding your light

Was enough to set my soul spinning as

a lonely top upon the surface of a blackened pond

Without a chance of floating alone

And struggling I grasp for the fingertips of reality

For I cannot stay here

With you

So I would choose to end the dream

And lack the suffering of a second goodbye

I enjoyed your poem very much. The "wanting" and "struggles" of doing something else is something that happens in everyday dream. I also like how the love story intertwined with the maybe-ness of the dream. Btw thank you for your review

I see your vision, as clearly as I see the page infront of me. I love the way this piece is so full of love and yet the end fills me with sorrow...
"So I would choose to end the dream,
To lack the suffering of a second goodbye"
Love it...but at the same time, hate it.
Why must all good dreams end?

These are touching lines in a poem of beautiful images. I also like "a lonely top on the surface of a blackened pond". The poem conveys a yearning that we have all sensed in dreams. Love it!
