Introspection #2

Introspection #2

A Poem by Delilah Dunn
"

Written Fall 2008

"

My mind is swirling with the colors of confusion and

I cannot breathe around the lack of air inside this room

There are words that I can feel but I cannot seem to hold

And now I am dancing,

Stalking,

Trying to capture the flashes of light within me

As they flicker upon the walls of my heart

My lungs fill up with songs I'd love to sing to anyone

Who'll bend a listening ear and hold my hand

And help me touch the sky

But flashes they are, and not flowing films

They do not linger like smoke upon the air

Floating like a gray and shapeless being yet forming

Every shape imaginable as my fingers reach and grasp

And fall below and beyond their reach

I feel as though I am made of sand

Dissolving

A bubble that tiny fingers are unable to catch and pop

And without form and without reason I am spinning

Dancing and chasing dreams I have almost forgotten

Being small now seems like only a vision

Far away and left behind in a dusty room

Or a dirty box beneath the floor boards

Left long ago for another delicate pair of hands to find...

Now I have come back to find myself;

to catch the light

and run like hell.

"to catch the light
and run like hell."
Legendary, simply wonderful. What I picture Is a child running as If he's been playing where he shouldn't have been and found some hidden treasure. Trying to run so as not to get caught, and trying to find somewhere safe to examine what he's found, and yet scared of what this treasure box may hold.

Sadly I know if it is a box of flashes from that jewel you call your mind it is definately something to be frightened of. Those flashes can engulf you like a sunrise and you will be trapped and powerless among their glory...as I am now.

this poem is frankly a piece of beautiful genius.
I can relate to the claustrophobia of the poem very well
Its bursting with anxiety and freedom at the same time.
amazing word choice and amazing poem...
