That Fire Fears To FollowA Poem by Julia Squires
I am the snow that drifts and swirls
I am the ice that cracks unbreaking A hardened shell that will not melt Encasing warmth within I am the princess with skin so pale That fire fears to follow I am the winter with trees so frail That earth goes dry and hollow I am the ghost that floats above The ground I cannot touch I am the bleach that wipes away The colors I can't detect I am the frost that coats the grass And numbs away all feeling I am the moss that grows and lasts Throughout the darkest season I am the wind that blows about Unsettling leaves in passing I am the cold that feels no heat But rather steals the soul © 2014 Julia Squires |
