![]() Chapter 1A Chapter by Angelin Lee
" Hey, "Prince Edward". How are you feeling today? Still having the after-effects of your nightmare?" Jane asked playfully.
"Stop calling me a prince. I'm not a prince. I'm just an ordinary guy like everyone of you." However, deep inside him, Edward's heart still flutters when he hears the word "prince", even though it has already been two long years since anyone called him that respectfully. "I'm just saying it for fun, there's no reason to get angry. Today is a long day, do you know that? It's time for the annual Spring Festival, so we have a lot of things to deliver. Drink more water, as the weather is very hot." "Hey, Jane! What's the plan for today!" A voice from one of the other guys working for her called out. Instantly, Jane's jovial expression changed into serious and business-like. "Okay, firstly, we have to deliver these cartons of vegetables to a restaurant in Boston. Remember, these cartons cost higher, as compared to the normal ones. As for these cartons..." To Edward, Jane's voice seems to melt away, as he stared into the rising horizon. Such scenery reminded him of the days he spent gazing out of the windows at his magnificent castle. ""Come on! Time to go! We ain't got all day to spend, you know?" Jane shouted. "Yes, I'm coming. Just give me a minute more." After an exhausting hour of carrying cartons after cartons of vegetables, just when he was about to sit down and relax before the next delivery, he heard something familiar. "Hey, everybody! It's time to move on! For our next stop, we are delivering these meat, vegetables, and fruits for their feast to Millicent this Sunday, afterwards we will take an hour break before proceeding on." As all the other workers cheered on, Edward rushed to Jane's side and asked,"Wait, did you say "Millicent?" "Yes, I did! Didn't you listen to me during the briefing? We are going to THE Millicent Castle! What a rare chance isn't it? Come on, let's get going!" As they approached the castle's entrance, Edward's heart started pumping hard. Beads of cold sweat rolled down his forehead. Flashes of memory began rushing back to him. Memories of him playing on the lawn as a child with his parents watching happily, and at last, memory of that fateful day. With nothing else to do, Edward entered a dreamy mode, and started to have flashbacks about his days at the castle. © 2013 Angelin Lee |
