This Final Piece I Have for You

This Final Piece I Have for You

It all started with a stupid nutrition month contest
And ended with an exchange of heated text messages
We were just pretending to get everybody off our backs
But a lot of things happened
So here I am going through our memories one last time
Because baby, this is my final piece for you

It all started with a stupid nutrition month contest when our adviser picked us to represent the class
Because she thought we would make a good Miss and Mister Healthrob
And we repeatedly declined the position until we finally got her off our backs
Flash forward to one year later when everybody was pairing us off once again
Because they thought we would have made a good Miss and Mister Healthrob
And we both agreed to make them believe there was something indeed going on between us just to get them off our backs
I never should've said yes to that stupid plan of ours
Because I fell for it
I fell for you

I fell for you the moment you sacrificed getting a zero in class just so I could have your book
I fell for you the moment you saved my best friend from disciplinary action when you claimed her cheating violation as your own
I fell for you the moment you looked at me with a proud look on your face that said "That's my girl." when I delivered well as a CAT officer
And most of all, I fell for you the moment you insistently asked me why I named the girl in my story Corinne
I fell hard for you in that moment because you remembered my answer when you asked me what I would want to name our future child
I fell really hard for you in those moments because I thought you cared
But all of it was a lie
Because we were just pretending to get everybody off our backs
But they never got off our backs and before we knew it, the lines had been crossed and a lot of people were already involved
Things got personal and complicated and baby, we fought each other until we couldn't fix anything anymore

Flash forward after high school graduation to how it all ended and there we were
You were in Manila and I was here. We were living our separate lives and suddenly I was missing you
So I sent you a text message confessing how hard I fell for you and that my feelings never changed
And what did you say?
You told me I'm sorry but what we had was not what it seemed
Because we were just pretending to get everybody off our backs
So you told me to delete your number
And my response? I can't believe I fell for an a*s like you

It all started with a stupid nutrition month contest
And ended with an exchange of heated text messages
But no, it didn't end there
It never ended there because you went back home for good and I was here and suddenly you were missing me
So you sent me a text message saying you wanted to fix things between us
And what did I say?
I told there wasn't anything between us that needed fixing since we never had anything real in the first place
Because we were just pretending to get everybody off our backs
So I told you to delete my number
And your response? Baby, I lied. I'm still in love with you

It all started with a stupid nutrition month contest
And it all ends here
Me, going through our memories one last time
Delivering this final piece I have for you
Because baby, I don't love you anymore

Oh yes, the back-and-forth relationship thing. Guys pretend to be so simple but they are really very complicated. I don't think they know what the want and deep feelings scare them. You conveyed your thoughts really well in this piece. Writing about heartbreak can be quite cathartic.
