“Happy New Year”

“Happy New Year”

A Poem by Steven Pottle

Happy new year?”
Rushing about
Nothing achieved
What is the point to this resented life?

Stressed heads
Bitten nails
Why do we go from where we always want to be?

I never know which way to fall…
Into your arms or straight to the floor?
Since we’ve been living here
You’ve started kissing differently

We all need to connect over something other than work and TV
We need to feel alive again, not living through the success of someone else
I heard about some silly celebration over the other side of the city…
Let’s go, I know we are knackered, shattered, battered and still knackered
But if we don’t do it now then we never will
So the journey to the other side wasn’t interesting enough to mention…let’s just say that we are there late enough to have to quickly catch up.

I didn’t know who to speak to first
Passed around the bar and the dancefloor
Since we’ve be laughing and dancing
You’ve started kissing me

Fresh heads
Painted nails
Glad that we bothered to travel to where we’ve always wanted to be

Rushing about
But something achieved
That’s the secret of surviving this resentful life…
Happy new year!!!”

I like this I thought it was very well expressed and quite the powerful read really. I love the last stanza. Very well written.
