Between Dreams

Between Dreams

A Poem by Terrance Brown

Its raining again.

Pitter-patter splatters on roof tiles

are a sweet way to wake.

Time for gum boots and splashes.

I’ll leap into the air,

high and free and floating and

crash down to shatter the smooth surface.

It’s school time again.

The play ground flight,

laughter with friends.

The soccer ball comes out and is

laced about by busy feet.

It’s home time again.

Rumbles and grumbles struggles

the bus, battling the gradient

towards my quiet house, and

my fat cat unconscious on the couch.

It’s night time again.

The horizon offers only darkness.

No monsters under my bed,

Just a pair in the lounge,

screeching and shouting

over the song of smashing crockery

which sends me off sleep.

I like this one, it's different. The happy innocence is well captured. The "high and free and floating and crash down to shatter the smooth surface" is kind of what this poem does. I don't know if that was on purpose but it's pretty cool...

This is a wonderfully vivid poem! The feel to this piece is exceptional..the life in stages...cleverly done...when home the shouting and the chaos....makes the reader really feel for the child facing this lifestyle xx
