I'm Still Here

As a star shoots across the sky,

As a moon begins to rise,

As a gentle wind caresses your face,

I am still here.

 

Battling the shadows of your heart

Trying to push them apart

I've been here so long

And yet you think that I'm gone

 

As the bird sings sweetly in your ear,

As the world's waking comes near,

As the sunlight dances on your face,

I am still here

 

Trying my best to make you smile

I haven't seen that in a while

I'm here all the time

and though I've long spent my lifetime,

I'm still here

 

As you watch the ocean pull and push,

As the sand is taken in a rush,

As the children about you laugh and play,

I am still here

 

I've spent all my time on earth

Yet I'm here all the same

To try and protect you

And show you everything is still the same

Yet your sad eyes refuse to see,

That I am still here

 

And based on everything that I see

It's good that I'm still here,

cuz you still need me

This is such a sweet poem. Always being there for someone trying to make them smile, sometimes all a person needs is someone to be there. This is beautifully written and I have to argue with you when you say "I'm not a good poet." It flows well, makes the reader feel and that is what a poet does. Nicely done.
