If Only

If Only

A Poem by Subin V K

If only

the pain would subside

cold winter nights brings with itself

old memories, distress and her sight

I wonder why it still hurts

If it is possible to keep in heart what in life never was

Love someone more than the pain you own

A chill that could break a bone

if only

life wasn't so full of regrets.

if, you never had to wonder what could've been

no ghosts lined the paths you trod

no crushed dreams lay on the paths you did not take

what a joy life would be

but, how would one know

joy from sorrow

if one hath not tasted both

and what would life be,

if one didn't wonder....

if only

And now it is summer

I wonder if I would ever grieve again

And when I shed my skin

Beneath the nerve and bone, with no soul to mourn

Will I turn into stone
