Bluesody

Bluesody

A Poem by Subterannean

Bluesody

To whom it may concern

I've forgotten the inculcation

of the blues,

deafened to

Ashanti palms chanting

ancient syncopation

down the river Densu.

Boogie woogie

misplaced,

plopped

into a gumbo of

ostentation.

Tongue numbed to greasy

empiricism: hogmaws,

collards, chitterlings.

Help me recall  the bubbling,

bubbling, bubbling

of polyrhythms,

dripped from

juke joint

tongue.

Remind me what's

 jelly roll soul

squeezed out of

a brasswind's

gilded lips.

Do you hear

the melting swish-swash

of jitterbuggin' bellies

 slathered  down to

ragtime slush?

Slick ebony cogitations

hovering above ivory keys,

lackadaisical tobacco

casually disintegrating.

Jive-hard,boiled-flesh,

pinstriped zoot-suits.

This music burns as

conked scalps, or

de jure segregation.

Blowin'  away Afro-codifications

to be decoded within eardrums

of even the most

scrupulously colonized.

Melodies that groan n' bellow' n' moan,

finally cauterize onto

memory's amnesiac night

To arise suddenly

and find one's mind sopped

in fallacy;wring out

each

commodified

blood

drop

let  flesh cool...melancholy congeal...

...though you would likely have

 me call this feeling

 something wretched,

something “post-blues".
