A Velvet One

A Velvet One

A Poem by Sujash I. Purna
"

Death...it's all we wait for consciously or subconsciously...

"
Mystic palace lit by a mystic moon
But the letters were carved in an ancient rune,
They bathed with glee in phosphorescent light.
Amid a myriad of weary rust and worn out nights
I searched through, for the Tomb of Delight
The one talismanic, the one death dreads touching
The meaning of Life.

But O! How premature!
I died beside this mosque,
I died before that cathedral,
Everytime I swallowed and was swallowed by this velvet one.

In a howling wind of chaos and fate,
A warning sign I grasped so late!
I was growing old and every minuscule moment
Was telling me, it was a fleeting dream.
Eyes wide open between two slumbers
And a fleeting glance upon a sailing ark,
And a crimson apple hanging from a tree
"Apples are sour" I sighed in vain
And imagined...
I felt my nostrils strained for a smell of life,
A feebly glinting wick that had stayed awake,
Singeing the hem of that velvet one.

MashaAllah, I've read this several times to myself, trying to pinpoint the meaning, trying to pick out truth from your descriptive, and lush imagry..but all in all, thats what poetry is supposed to do to us right? Very well written, I hope to read more from you in the future.

Sujash this was an intriguing write. I found your lines “I searched through, for the Tomb of Delight”, “The one talismanic, The one death dreads touching, The meaning of Life” very thought provoking. It reminded me of those who hunt for the fountain of youth. I was not sure I had a clear understanding of talisman so I am posting the definition.

talisman |ˈtalismən; -iz-|
noun ( pl. -mans )
an object, typically an inscribed ring or stone, that is thought to have magic powers and to bring good luck.

Your lines “In a howling wind of chaos and fate, A warning sign I grasped so late” is interesting and full of raw response. A most fascinating write that holds a view quite different than First Nations thought and worth a deeper look. Good job.

This is really good. I like how towards the beginning the mood is very happy and cheerful but with a small hint of gloom approaching with the fourth line "Amid a myriad of weary rust and worn out night". The transition from the beginning mood to the ending mood is very smooth and appropriate. All in all this is a really great poem. Great job!
